LBRU UPDATE 2 May 2019
No News is Good News!
As of May 1, Peak Materials has not filed with the county for either a Conditional Use Permit to mine gravel from the Hillyard property, nor to import material to the Maryland Creek mine and processing facility.
We have recently hired two expert witnesses to help us stop the mine:
A water engineer to, among other things, evaluate the impact of a gravel mine on ground water supplies and local water wells, and on water quality of the Blue River.
A wildlife expert to, among other things, evaluate the impact of a gravel mine on our large resident herds of elk, deer, and moose, as well as the impact of industrial activity, including truck traffic, on the many bird species that migrate to and from our valley.
We have reached our goal for phase 1 of our fundraising campaign. This will finance our presentations and testimony before the Lower Blue Planning Commission if and when a request for a Conditional Use permit is filed with the county.
